Weight Loss for cycing

Why I wrote the Weight Loss Cycle Training Plan

Have you just started cycling or been riding for several years and struggle to lose weight? Or worse still weigh more than before you started? Well, I have written this Weight Loss Cycle Training Plan for YOU!

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” Albert Einstein

The fact is that cycling alone doesn’t make you lose weight! There, I have said it! Sorry to shatter all your illusions but this is true. To lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit. There is no way of escaping this I’m afraid and you cannot out-exercise a bad diet, trust me I have tried! It is not all bad news though as not all calories are created equal. What and when you eat has a massive effect on how your body uses the food.

Why I wrote the weight loss cycle training plan

I have always struggled with my weight growing up and like most people I tried a whole host of diet plans and exercise routines. We all look for that magic pill or quick short cut when it comes to losing weight but that generally doesn’t work or is short-lived. 95% of weight lost on a diet is gained back, 2/3rds weigh more than before they started! This is why weight watchers generally work, they have customers for life. I want you to be in the 5% club!

There were some gains with my weight loss after taking up cycling but I soon hit a plateau. It seems that the more I trained and the harder I went the less weight I lost and even put on times! I thought there has got to be another way. Through a great deal of research myself, help from my own cycle coach and performance nutritionist Jason Fligg I finally hit my goal weight. I am now eating more at times but importantly the right foods at the right time. Couple this with the correct training sessions and the right mindset and you have the winning combination.

There is no quick fix. At the end of the day, you still have to do the work to maintain your weight. It can’t be a diet. You have to change your life.

My 3 M’s Method

There are two main reasons that you fail to reach your goals whether it is weight loss or anything in life. Although with weight loss there is some education needed which we will cover, it normally comes down to mindset or motivation.

After doing much personal development with myself through reading and listening to podcasts this method really resonated with me, it is simple and can be applied to any number of goals you may have. Unfortunately, I cannot take the credit for coming up with it but I am passionate about teaching it.

The 3 M’s stand for Mindset, Motivation and Method. Not only do you need each one of these to achieve your goals, importantly I have now understood that they need to be in the correct order also! All too often we “teach” the method first but this needs to be the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle!

I give plenty of simple practical advice throughout I will also share details about my “3 M” method. This has been developed through coaching many athletes who have all struggled with weight loss. This covers Mindset, Motivation and plenty of method. Far too many people start with at the wrong end of this methodology.

Why is this plan different from other Weight Loss Plans?

This is not just a cycle training plan as those DON’T work! This is a lifestyle and an education. On completion of this training plan, you will have the tools and knowledge to continue your weight loss journey yourself. This will although you to make better choices with your training and nutrition on and off the bike. You will be able to copy and repeat this plan for many more weeks to come knowing that you will be doing the right sessions in your training journey for weight loss.

“Fuel and Train not Diet and Exercise”

Within this plan, I will not only give you the cycle sessions that will optimise fat burning I will also guide you through all the other aspects of weight loss. This includes guidance on food choices when to eat and other ideas that you may not have thought about. It is not all about training hard on the bike as I have found the more you train the more you eat!

My cycling career started in 2005 when I purchased my first road bike and I was immediately hooked. Since then I have completed numerous cycling challenges including Ironman, Lands’ End to John O Groats, Mt Ventoux (all 3 ascents), London to Paris, the BBAR challenge which included a 12hour TimeTrial and more recently the Mallorca 312.
